The procession (Greek pompe ) was a vital part of ancient Greek ritual involving the movement of ritually important individuals, artifacts ( hiera ), and/or sacrificial animals to and from a sacred destination. Processions are most often associated with polis festivals, although they are also vital to some mystery religions.
