Votive offerings include depictions of body parts placed under the protection of a deity. Most extant anatomical votives are made in stone, terracotta, wood, bronze, and ivory (painting, relief, sculpture); temple inventories reveal that some were also made in materials that did not survive – such as wax, gold, and silver – that were melted down.
