Paul the Silentiary composed a high‐flown verse description (Ekphrasis; 1,029 lines) of Justinian I's church of Hagia Sophia, Constantinople, to celebrate its re‐dedication over Christmas 562/3 CE , following restoration after a partial collapse of the dome (558) from earthquake damage.
