Herakleia is a town in western Asia Minor, whose foundation in early Hellenistic times can be connected to a synoikismos by the satrap Asandros. In its urban development as well as in the construction of the well‐preserved city walls some other successors of Alexander the Great were also involved. Their respective share in this is controversial, but a strong Antigonid impact seems to be the most likely. The previous settlement called Latmos is situated close by with remains mainly belonging to the fourth century bce .
