Ptolemy XV was the son of Cleopatra VII and allegedly Julius Caesar. In the literary sources he is often called Kaisarion or Caesarion (“little Caesar”). After the murder of Ptolemy XIV in 44 bce , he was made king and his mother's co‐ruler. In 34 Antony acknowledged him as a true son of Caesar by Cleopatra. At the end of her reign, his mother sent Ptolemy XV away for his own safety, but he was betrayed by his tutor Rhodon to return. Octavian did not wish to have another putative son of Caesar alive, and had him executed.
