Philip III Arrhidaios (ca. 355–317 BCE ) was the son of Philip II of Macedon and of Philine of Larissa. He suffered from a mental illness that saved him from Alexander III, The Great's purges in 336, thus allowing him to receive the kingship after Alexander's death.
