Periander (ca. 650–585 bce ) was tyrant (sole ruler) of Corinth between 620 and 585. Seventh‐century Corinth was the wealthiest and most sophisticated state of Archaic Greece, dominating trade routes east and west, and Periander inherited a secure rule from his equally successful father, Kypselos.
