The Corinthian Gulf (first mentioned in Xen. Hell . 6.2.9) is a long and narrow bay separating the Peloponnese from central Greece. The gulf reaches a maximum depth of slightly more than 850 m. All poleis on the coast were connected in a close way. The north coast exhibits a subsiding coastline with a few alluvial plains and with many bays.
