Robert Phillipson studied at Cambridge and Leeds universities in the UK, and has a doctorate from the University of Amsterdam. For the British Council he taught English in Algeria, and organised in‐service teacher training in Yugoslavia. He emigrated to Denmark, where he taught at a pedagogically innovative university. He is an emeritus professor at Copenhagen Business School. Study of educational language policies in former colonies in Africa led to his book Linguistic Imperialism , which is seriously critical of the language pedagogy that the British export worldwide. He has written on language policy issues in Europe and elsewhere, see Linguistic Imperialism Continued . With Tove Skutnabb‐Kangas he has edited four volumes on Language Rights and the Handbook of Linguistic Human Rights .
