While Hippias may have ruled Athens together with Hipparchos from 528/27 bce , he was certainly sole tyrant at his brother's death in 514 bce . He governed until 511/10 bce when the Peisistratids were expelled from Athens. Present at Marathon in 490 bce , he was officially execrated thereafter for leaguing with the Persians to reestablish his tyranny.
