L'A. passe en revue toutes les perspectives qui ont vu le jour dans le domaine de la sociologie de la science. Il montre comment Robert Merton dans les annees 1930, a partir d'une analyse weberienne, fit faire a la discipline ses premiers pas, que la theorie marxiste s'est constituee spontanement en paradigme dans ce domaine. Il examine ensuite les contributions de Kuhn, la perspective constructiviste de Woolgar et Ashmore, celle d'Aronowitz qui s'efforce de relier science, technologie et societe. Il decrit l'approche developpee par Latour et celle de Grundman qui s'attache a restaurer une orientation theorique marxiste dans ce domaine
