For the last several decades, Meda Chesney‐Lind has published groundbreaking research on the subject of girls' and women's deviance. Her work has been notable in its focus on how the lives of delinquent girls are often characterized by abuse in the home, running away, unfortunate contact with the juvenile justice system, and life on the street that may lead to criminal activity, including drugs and prostitution. She has consistently called for policies and programming that are gender‐appropriate and that take into consideration the victim–offender nexus in many women's experience.
