Dispilio, a Neolithic village by the lake of Kastoria in Macedonia, northwestern Greece, is the first lacustrine settlement excavated in the Aegean. Early platform houses raised on the shore were later replaced by buildings on dry land. Systematic research revealed well‐preserved structural wood and clay, extensive evidence for freshwater fishing and hunting, and a wealth of utilitarian and symbolic artifacts – local and imported. A reconstruction of prehistoric households can be visited on location. There are also remains of later periods (Bronze Age to modern).
