Robert E. Park was one of the most influential American sociologists; he was best known for his work on urban ecology, race relations, and social disorganization. Park worked with Booker T. Washington at the Tuskegee Institute and the sociologist Ernest W. Burgess (with whom he developed the concentric zone theory) at the University of Chicago. Robert Park played a leading role in the development of what came to be known as the Chicago School of Sociology. His most influential research works are in the areas of human ecology, racial and ethnic relations, migration, assimilation, social movements, and social disorganization.
