The island of Aigina (85.9 km 2 ) is located in the Saronic Gulf, about 29.6 km from the Piraeus. Archaic and early Classical Aigina was a strong commercial and naval power, with two harbors and an emporion (Dem. Against Aristocrates 211; Ephorus FGrH 70 F 176; cf. Ps.‐Skylax Periplus 53).
