While news and journalism has always played an important role in how we understand the environment, social media and other digital spaces are providing more visibility to environmental issues and debates than ever. Ideas about ‘the environment’ may now be mainstream, but communicating the complexity of meaningful action on climate and other issues remains challenging for journalists and other environmental communicators. Thinking about media and the environment is also about more than how we tell stories. All media production – from posting on social media to making a blockbuster movie – carries an environmental impact.
