Gender is analyzed in interaction using case studies, variational sociolinguistics, discourse analysis, and cultural studies. These research approaches investigate gender from biological, cultural, and linguistic perspectives and situate it amid history and politics to reveal the scope and depth of gender. In addition, recent research provides novel insights by entangling sex, gender, and sexuality and by comparing them from different cultural perspectives.
