The Psalms of Solomon is a collection of eighteen pseudonymous poems that recount an unknown Jewish community's response to the 63 BCE Roman conquest of Jerusalem. Composed in Hebrew, it survives only in Greek and Syriac translations. Although the authorship of the Psalms of Solomon is unknown, the terminology and theology of several poems are reminiscent of many Dead Sea Scrolls. The Psalms of Solomon was likely written by several authors, and collected together at a later date for liturgical use. The collection was probably attributed to Solomon because of the similarity between canonical Psalm 72, which is ascribed to this biblical king, and the reference to the “son of David” in Psalms of Solomon 17.21.
