The Geography and Economy of Ancient Georgia

The geography of Colchis and Iberia is characterized by diversity: mountains, passes, plains, marshes, and foothills form a changing landscape, intersected by scores of rivers, some readily navigable. To the north and east, passes lead on to extensive plains, while to the south they lead into the Armenian uplands. The west is dominated by the Black Sea itself, the greatest highway of the region.
