Day by day, in different parts of the world, diverse populations are exposed to eviction and expulsion processes. Although there is bibliography about these dynamics at an international level, it is relevant to approach evictions in a conceptual manner. Urban studies and human rights international organizations have worked on eviction processes. Rethinking the polysemic character of the term and the characteristics that these processes assume – taking into account urban transformations, intervening actors, procedures, claims – is relevant if one wants to approach an increasingly recurrent problem in the cities of the world today. Besides, this kind of rethinking will create protection mechanisms for the population affected by expulsion.
