The notion of religious deviance necessarily implies a religious standard from which to deviate, but it is difficult to identify such a standard in the Greek and Roman religious traditions: there was no foundational text like the Torah or the Bible, no explicitly formulated doctrine, and no hierarchy of religious authorities who could define or enforce adherence to a doctrine.
