Around the early autumn of 320 – or, unlikely, 321 BCE – the Diadochoi (“Successors”), as Alexander's successors are known, gathered at Triparadeisos, a city (or perhaps a region) in Syria, to reorganize the administration of the Macedonian Empire (Diod. Sic. 18.39; Arr. Succ . F1.30–8). After the murder of Perdikkas, a new official had to be appointed to represent the incompetent kings Philip III and Alexander IV and to govern the state.
