The Chronicle of Zuqnīn is a Syriac universal chronicle beginning with the Creation and concluding in ca. 775 ce . The first three parts of the chronicle are chiefly drawn from the Bible and the Ecclesiastical Histories of E usebius , Socrates, and John of Ephesus. The Chronicle of Zuqnīn is the sole source for the so‐called Chronicle of Joshua the Stylite , a narrative of Roman‐Persian warfare on the Mesopotamian frontier from the reign of Anastasius, and for Part II of John of Ephesus’ history. The chronicle is based around dated lemmas, on the same model as the West Syrian minor chronicles, which has forced its author to divide up continuous narrative histories according to date.
