This chapter examines the role of the Horn of Africa People’s Aid (hereafter HAPA), a refugee community organization whose aims are to advocate for refugees from Somalia and other Horn of Africa regions and provide wide-ranging information and support services. 1 It draws upon the findings of a report on the settlement experiences of Somali refugees and asylum seekers in Ireland, carried out in collaboration with HAPA (Moreo and Lentin, 2010), and on extensive conversations with Suleiman Abdulahi, one of the co-founders of the association.
