The Achaemenid Persian empire networked a number of regional economies through an administrative system that promoted extraction, redistribution and the movement of goods, largely in support of the ruling elite. There were strong continuities in the economic organization of the regional economies, along with developments by the administration that promoted the longevity of the empire.
