The use of celebrity for environmental causes varies enormously according to the cause being supported. There are many forms of environmentalism, but celebrity is perhaps best suited to supporting mainstream forms, characterized by their engagement with, and origins in, alliances with capitalism. This entry explores the varieties of celebrity work for the environment and some of the forces producing it.
