Is pornography part of popular culture? The fact that this question can be posed is in itself significant, for porn stands on the threshold of acceptability and visibility. Its function is in some ways to scandalize, to present ‘on-scene’ what is considered obscene. 1 But porn has also been commercialized and industrialized in this century. Not simply found in the leatherbound volumes of the upper-class connoisseur, it is blazoned across mass selling magazines, which are found in every newsagent. These keywords were added by machine and not by the authors. This process is experimental and the keywords may be updated as the learning algorithm improves.
