Fabius Valens was a Roman commander who achieved notoriety during a period of civil war known as the “Year of the Four Emperors,” that is, 69 CE . Originally from Anagnia and from an equestrian family, Valens' activities are known entirely in the context of that episode and almost exclusively from the Histories of Tacitus (books 1–3), and to a lesser degree, Plutarch's biographies of Galba and Otho and Josephus' Jewish War .
