This chapter describes the harsh Haitian world of insecurity, fear, and collective anxiety in a profoundly disordered state, relating the story of Danielle, who sought justice from the police for the murders of her husband and sons in the mid-1990s, and analyzing the complexities of the geography of trauma, fear, and insecurity. It highlights the fragility of Haiti's political and civil institutions and processes, and criticizes the international community's interventions and identification of what Haitians suffer from and what they need.
