Shenoute of Atripe was an important and powerful monastic leader and popular preacher in Upper Egypt from the late fourth to the mid‐fifth century. The fragmentary remains of his writings are central to the study of Sahidic Coptic, as well as providing evidence for a range of subjects pertinent to the development of Christianity in Late Antiquity.
