Global environmental history and the biocultural evolution of early humans. This study analyses factors of biocultural evolution of early humans as a fundamental process of becoming human. Homo sapiens is the product of complex evolutionary processes. Natural habitats and its resources, which were changing in space and time due to processes of climatic change, provided living spaces for our ancestors. Cultural behaviour influenced and increased the possibilities of overcoming natural boundaries created by biological evolution. While the factors of biological evolution slowly declined in importance, the number of developmental advances in cultural evolution steadily increased. From the interaction with environmental factors such as habitat, food, competition or social environment, the genus Homo has developed an extraordinary biocultural diversity from around 2.5 million years ago to the present day.
