Bangladeshi migration to Spain has grown steadily since 2005, due to economic and political instability in Bangladesh and restrictive migration policies in the US and Europe. This article situates the diaspora within Spain’s legal and historical context, highlighting the tension between the liberal rhetoric of immigration policy and harsh border control measures that reinforce racial, economic, and religious hierarchies. By highlighting Valiente Bangla/Brave Bangla, a neighborhood-based migrant organization in Madrid, the article shows how the Bangladeshi diaspora advances migrant rights through collective organizing, advocacy and in solidarity with other migrant groups as well as allied Spanish activists. It examines the challenges of building organizational capacity, negotiating Spain’s multicultural discourse, and confronting legacies of coloniality, emphasizing the importance of an anti-racist, anti-colonial human rights framework. The article contributes to scholarship on diaspora politics, migration, and the intersections of race, coloniality, and human rights in contemporary Europe.
