This microhistory analyzes youth mobilization around clothing and behavior at Brazilian universities in 1968. It argues that protests over academic dress in Bahia were not merely aesthetic but challenged exclusionary norms and elite codes of conduct. The article contends Tropicália and counterculture influenced youth more deeply than historiography suggests, inspiring protests that relaxed dress rules at the Federal University of Bahia. Finally, it examines why this localized case attracted significant state and national media attention.
