This article offers a renewed and comprehensive analysis of the international circulation of horses in the Portuguese medieval context. Understanding its frequency, the different contexts in which it took place and, above all, the impact of this circulation contributes, on the one hand, to a deeper understanding of the influence that human beings had on the development and diffusion of this animal and, on the other, to an assessment of the importance that these quadrupeds had in the process of expansion and colonization across different forms, periods and contexts.
