A member of the founding generation for Christian spirituality studies as an academic discipline, Wendy M. Wright is remembered as an inspiring figure whose life, scholarship, teaching, and academic service were inseparably united with the historical genesis and early development of that interdisciplinary field. Her contextual study of the Salesian tradition, in particular, provided her with a firm foundation for original reflections on popular devotional practices among the Catholic laity. Her ardent scholarship and generous service clearly reflected and affected, in turn, her own spiritual formation.
