II. The study focused on two series of drachms of Rhescuporis II: one with images of the king on horseback and the other with Aphrodite enthroned on the reverse. Their reverses display distinctive markings, which clearly indicate the emission symbols of the mints established under this ruler. Most of these markings are Sarmatian symbols. There is every reason to believe that Rhescuporis II significantly expanded the borders of the Bosporan Kingdom. Judging by the numerous variations of the depiction of the king on horseback, this ruler waged successful wars with the northern Black Sea tribes for control of Eastern Taurica and the Northern Caucasus. By studying the emission markings, it was possible to trace not only the organization of the currency but also the territorial expansion of the Tiberii Julii kingdom under Rhescuporis II.
