Meduran Hamlet, which is primarily home to laborers, is experiencing an employment crisis. This study examines the socio-economic dimensions behind this phenomenon. The research method used an ethnographic approach with a revisiting method to observe the dynamics of change in depth. From a theoretical framework perspective, the loss of laborers was caused by the community’s lack of access to land, which made people reluctant to farm. However, the research findings revealed the opposite: the Meduran community has long been a migrant community without access to land, so working as laborers is the only way to obtain land for farming. Therefore, the problem is not a reluctance to become laborers, which has led to a shortage of agricultural laborers in vegetable farming. Rather, it is the shift in commodities that has created a new culture in the way laborers work, as well as the exposure of the outside world to the world of agriculture, which has made laborers reluctant to farm, especially as vegetable peasants. As a consequence, these two factors have led to the loss of a labor regime that controls or regulates employment. Several efforts have been made, but they have not been successful. Ultimately, this situation has forced farmers to hire labor from outside the hamlet using a group system.
