In this paper I examine the income gap between rural and urban populations in Egypt. To determine the seriousness of this problem, a central task was to consider whether the government's agricultural pricing policy was favorable or unfavorable to farmer income. I examine the nature and the amounts of subsidies given for agricultural inputs (such as fuels, technology, fertilizers and pesticides) and contrast this to the hidden or disguised taxes levied against agricultural outputs. It was found that those who make up the majority of the rural population in Egypt are taxed implicitly more than they are subsidized explicity. No other conclusion could be reached but that pricing policy, negatively biased against farmer income, has been the chief factor in the increasing rural-urban income gap over the past two decades
