Portugal atravessa uma situação de crise económica e social que fez aumentar a pressão sobre os serviços sociais. Confrontadas com a diminuição da capacidade dos sistemas estatais de cuidado continuarem a providenciar este apoio, as pessoas (re)tomam vias informais para lidar com o problema. Ao mostrar como as pessoas se integram em sistemas formais e informais de cuidado este artigo debate o modo como as práticas informais contribuem para enfrentar situações de crise (económica, pessoal ou politica) e, nesse sentido, são um factor de sustentabilidade
