A decade ago, the machine polishers played an important role in organizing the Lakeshore mill of the Eastern Manufacturing Company for the C.I.O. This small department, comprising less than three percent of the bargaining unit, succeeded in electing the local president and three executive board members from their own group. Today they have slipped into relative passivity. In fact no polisher has attended sufficient local meetings this past year to become eligible as a candidate in future elections
