Medical thinkers in Western society have only recently come to recognize the importance of psychological and sociological factors in disease and treatment. In primitive societies however where the germ theory, antibiotics, and steroids have not as yet been introduced the emotional, attitudinal and interpersonal components of disease receive the chief emphasis. Primitive peoples have integrated their medical arts into the conceptual framework of their societies and all members share the same theories of disease and treatment
