The question of what sources of aid and assistance were relied upon in hypothetical crisis situations was examined in a representative sample of Jews in a middle-sized American city. Restriction of the source of assistance to the nuclear family was the primary strategy reported, followed by consultation with professionals. Kin and friends were seen as about of equal importance with very little utilization of general purpose counseling agencies reported. It is suggested that the interaction of class and ethnicity may account for these patterns
