Le my the de Windigo, un monstre cannibal, est repandu chez les Algonquins des forets boreales. Les Anthropologues ont appele psychose le comportement associe a ce mythe. Cet article decrit un phenomene analogue au Windigo, Wechuge, chez les Beavers athapaska. Les significations con textuelles de ces deux phenomenes sont comparees. Pris dans son contexte, Wechuge apparait comme une demonstration de pouvoir surnaturel. L'analyse remet en question le bien-fonde de la perception du Windigo comme psychotique: il s'agirait la d'une evaluation basee sur le contexte de Panthropologue plutot que sur celui des acteurs
