This article argues for the integration of social anthropology and the scientific study of human behavior, emphasizing the importance of hypothesis testing and rigorous methodology in anthropological research. Freeman critiques the prevailing reliance on descriptive ethnography and advocates for a more scientific approach that incorporates quantitative data and statistical analysis. He proposes that social anthropology should move beyond the documentation of cultural differences and focus on developing general theories of human behavior that can be tested cross-culturally. He illustrates his argument with examples from his own research on Iban social organization and challenges anthropologists to embrace a more scientific framework to enhance the discipline's rigor and predictive power
