This paper explores the extent and durability of satisfaction expressed by a group of chronicallyill aged patients and attempts to relate variations to some social, economic and health aspects of life as well as subjective perceptions of these conditions. Optimism is more widespread and durable than expected and seems to be related more to the perception of a given situation than the actual condition
