The narrative ethnographer has available a number of writing strategies for framing the results of inquiry. Here the chronotope of the road encloses a story line with digressions and excerpts from an interview with the former chief executive officer (CEO) of Deere and Company, the world's largest manufacturer of farm machinery. By using a language game derived from Malinowski, the effort is made to understand language use in market culture from the perspective of elites. A closing critique of the interview helps us understand the way the leadership in America's most substantial corporations locate themselves in an unselfconscious, individualistic community of companies that comprise a significant part of contemporary world market formation.
