THE organizational concepts and characteristics of the Cornell First Child Study have been described in earlier presentations by both principal investigators and in a paper by Meyerowitz (1966). This paper shall discuss the analysis of factors relating to couples' manifest satisfaction during the pregnancy period. From a complete data matrix of 300+ variables, elicited from the protocols of 407 primiparous couples beginning the third trimester of pregnancy, 78 functionally separate responses relating to current marital satisfaction and 200 experiential variables were selected. Initially, the 78 satisfaction variables were reduced to 25 orthogonal indices, and the 200 experiential responses reduced to 31 clusters.
