It was hypothesized: (1) demographic characteristics of those spouses where both were enrolled in school would significantly differ from the demographic characteristics of those spouses where the husband only was enrolled; (2) marital adjustment scores of the two groups would differ significantly; and (3) variables related to the marital adjustment of the spouses in the two groups would differ significantly in their relationship. The data, collected from a random sample of married students and their spouses at a midwestern university, supported the stated hypotheses. In addition, this study challenges A Test to Measure Marital Adjustment developed by Burgess, Locke, and Thomas as applicable to marriages which are constituted of people who do not fulfill the traditional concepts relative to marriage
