This research note reports the results of a preliminary survey to measure the incidence of parental child snatching. Telephone interviews were conducted by Louis Harris and Associates with a representative cross section of 3, 745 adults 18 years of age or older within the United States. Fifty-five respondents (or 1.5% of the sample) reported personal involvement in an incident of child snatching in the previous 12 months. Projecting this rate to 83.5 million households, assuming that at least two households are involved in each incident of child snatching, and allowing for a sampling error of +.39%, there are an estimated 459,000 to 751,000 incidents of child snatching each year
