The family of Bessie Smith, the blues singer who died 39 years ago has filed a lawsuit in Federal Court in Philadelphia against CBS, Inc., and Columbia Records, Inc. The suit charged that the two companies exploited Miss Smith because she was black and never paid her more than $200 for any of the records she made between 1922 and 1933. It said that reissues of her records grossed more than $6 million. The suit was filed by Jack Gee Jr., Miss Smith's son, and others
